# A woman-owned, veteran-owned race timing company

Overland Timing has been timing races since 2016, mostly in Maryland and also in
DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Here’s who we are.

Founder & owner

## Melissa Kauffman

Melissa was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She’s a proud veteran of the
United States Air Force, where she served four years of active duty working in aircraft
maintenance. After her service, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Administration,
specializing in Event Management, from Georgia State University.

Eager to explore the world and get out of her comfort zone, Melissa moved to South
Korea and later Hong Kong. Hong Kong, a world-renowned mecca for competitive sports
events, is where she was first introduced to race directing and race timing, helping
a colleague organize and time ultramarathon trail races.

She quickly fell in love with trail running, and with the fun, exciting, and rewarding
business of creating and managing race events. Inspired, she set her sights on launching
her own race timing and race directing company back in the States. And the rest 
is history.

## Andrew

Andrew also grew up in Rochester, New York, and graduated from Rochester Institute
of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in physics. He now works as a data scientist&
software engineer.

Most of our races are in Maryland, and we’ve also timed events in DC, Virginia,
